A weird culture for Singapore Chinese New year would be giving new notes in red packet/ang bao.

Money is money regardless of used or new

I wasn’t really particular with queuing to get new notes as it’s my money people are receiving. Not money that I am keeping.

Singapore Government also tries to address this with fit-to-use notes and I used them last year.

But the notes looked dirty and folded and didn’t seem different from a normal ATM.

Yesterday, when I walked past the bank, I noticed that the queue was relatively short with only 4 people queueing. So I joined the queue.

OCBC only allow you to withdraw these 4 package, maximum 2 times per person. I vague heard the staff say it’s based on NRIC, so you cannot queue again (not sure). Anyway, I also think that the max is $1000.

I withdrew the $900 package as I still have $2 notes from last year. I shall share with my wife and hopefully it’s sufficient.

Hopefully I can get these money back from my 2 kids also.
